Day 2
April 18
|
CAIRO
Following
a buffet breakfast at your hotel travel
to Sakkara, the vast necropolis of
ancient Memphis. Deceased Pharoahs,
family members and sacred animals were
ceremoniously transported from Memphis
to be permanently enshrined in one of
the many temples, pyramids and tombs. A
visit is made to the complex of the
famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser built
in 2686 B.C. Believed by many to be
Egypt’s first pyramid, it is considered
to be the oldest stone structure of its
size in the world.
At mid-day, pause for lunch at the Mena
House Palace and continue to the
Pyramids of Giza and the mysterious
Sphinx. Marvel at the size of these
monumental structures and the magnitude
of the labor required to construct
them. Exactly how the ancient Egyptians
were able to construct these
architectural wonders remains a mystery
today. The inscrutable Sphinx, with the
body of a lion and the face of a man was
carved from a single block of stone. It
was the ancient Egyptians’ belief in
eternal life and their desire to be one
with the cosmos that led to the
construction of these incredible
mausoleums.
Return to the Four Seasons First
Residence Hotel and enjoy dinner on your
own this evening.

reside here, built this mosque between
1830 and 1848.
Following
your visit, spend some time at leisure
in the exotic environment of the Khan El
Khalili marketplace. Wander amongst the
stalls and bargain for souvenirs, or
just soak up the atmosphere of your
surroundings.

with the group again at a local
restaurant and enjoy lunch before
heading on to the Egyptian Museum of
Antiquities, renowned for its extensive
collection of artifacts dating from 4000
B.C. See the fabulous treasure of the
